I won’t lie. This one hurt.
Yes, I’ve learned to put sports in their proper perspective. They’re worth a certain level of passion, but sports pain cannot become personal pain.
But sometimes it does.
Kevin Durant leaving the OKC Thunder for Golden State cut deep.
I’ve written and deleted this post ten times in the past few days. Most of you don’t give a crap about basketball. Or Oklahoma. Or what this Oklahoman thinks about basketball.
So, I’ll just say this.
Thanks for everything, KD.
You’ve kept me entertained for literally hundreds, maybe thousands of hours over the past eight years.
You’ve given energy to my home state that was desperately needed. You also gave millions of dollars to tornado victims, and lots of other donations the public doesn’t know about.
Because of you and Russ I see kids all over the country wearing OKC Thunder gear.
The state has evolved, and there are some signs of progress toward modern times. I credit you with much of that.
I hope they build a statue of you, name roads after you.
I hope you lose 82 games this year.
You won’t. You’ll win a lot closer to 82. So I hope you lose in the playoffs.
You won’t, until the Finals. Then I hope you get swept.
You won’t, so I hope you lose in seven. That’ll be good enough for my bitter soul.
I’ll get over it in a couple years. But for now, thanks for everything and kiss my ass.
